MISSION: The American Red Cross Northwest Region brings together local volunteers to care for their neighbors, trains hundreds of thousands of people each year in life-saving skills, and responds to a local disaster almost daily. With offices located throughout the state, we serve the people, businesses and communities of Washington and North Idaho.

ABOUT: How does the Red Cross respond to disasters during a pandemic like the coronavirus? Since February, when the coronavirus outbreak began to escalate in our country, Red Cross workers have helped more than 53,000 people recover from more than 13,000 home fires nationwide. Red Cross volunteers are working with local fire departments to connect with families by phone or video calls, offering a sympathetic ear and linking them to available support, such as providing hotel stays and emergency financial assistance.

MISSION: The Bainbridge Island Land Trust’s mission is to preserve and steward the diverse natural environment of Bainbridge Island for the benefit of all.

ABOUT: The Bainbridge Island Land Trust is in the midst of the Stand for the Land Campaign - the largest campaign in the organization's history. Launched to safeguard critical habitat before it’s gone, this campaign has helped place down payments on 66 acres (across four properties) of ecologically significant land on Bainbridge Island Land Trust. Nature provides our community with a space for refuge and solitude and can be incredibly healing, especially during these difficult times. The Land Trust would greatly appreciate the opportunity to provide an update for our community on the status of the Stand for the Land Campaign, while thanking Islanders for their continued support and embrace of our organization's efforts to protect nature on Island, for everyone. We are on the cusp of announcing our final acquisition as a part of this campaign. It will take the whole community to protect this iconic landscape.

MISSION: Bainbridge Island Saddle Club is a membership organization whose purpose is to promote good horsemanship and foster amateur equestrian sports in the Bainbridge Island community and surrounding areas.

ABOUT: We host a variety of educational activities such as schooling shows and clinics for children and adults, as well as special member-only events including equestrian gaming, demonstrations and fun gatherings to build community. Our schooling show series includes hunter-jumper and dressage and extends April-October. We provide a fun and supportive environment for all to learn and gain experience with their horses in financially accessible competition. We come together at the end of our show season with an annual awards banquet to celebrate and honor the achievements of our members.

Bainbridge Island Visually Impaired Persons Support Group

MISSION: The mission/objectives of the BIVIP are twofold: 1) to further the physical, social and emotional well-being of persons in the community and surrounding area who are coping with vision loss; (2) to inform the community about the challenges, needs and potential of its members by assuming an advocacy role regarding these issues.

ABOUT: In normal times, the BIVIP meets monthly at the library, hosting speakers of interest to VIPs, and giving VIPs valuable connection opportunities to share what works for them in adapting to life with the challenges of vision loss. We maintain a resource list that can be shared electronically during normal and COVID times. We also have a Review/Islander reading program where volunteer readers read aloud the weekly island papers, which are distributed on flash drive to interested VIPs for playing in the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library digital player. Once it is safe to do so, we'll resume our monthly meetings, from 1-3pm on the second Wednesday of the month in the big meeting room at the library. MISSION: The Bainbridge Island Youth Orchestra provides orchestral experience and quality musical education while fostering teamwork and collaboration, and nurturing self-confidence, respect for the process, and musical excellence.

ABOUT: Thanks to outdoor rehearsal space generously donated by Evergreen Acres Farm, we have been able to offer an uninterrupted '20-'21 season with a combination of online and in-person rehearsals. Our Fall concert, recorded October 31, is currently available for viewing at our website and Facebook Live page, and our Winter concert will be released at these sites on April 18. Please support our efforts to continue to provide an excellent youth orchestra training program (now with over 50 members including woodwinds, brass and percussion) through OCFA, and like us on Facebook and Instagram so we can keep you apprised of upcoming events. Our music director, Tigran Arakelyan, also hosts a new radio show, "Exploring Music"; enjoy that on Sundays 3pm to 4pm, at KPTZ 91.9 FM.

Starting at 10am via Zoom, the day will feature PhD-level expert keynote speakers on earthquake and pandemics, as well as short sessions for various Bainbridge Prepares Team Leads and partners about their activities, such as BARN detailing how they transformed their Makr Space for COVID response.

ABOUT: BPAA offers monthly astronomy programs and star parties, as well as impromptu stargazing opportunities as weather permits. In the face of the pandemic all our programs are offered virtually over Zoom. BPAA members have access to loaner telescopes and our large library of astronomy-related books.

ABOUT: Carden Country School, an interdenominational Christian school situated on a small working farm, serves families on Bainbridge and Kitsap County with students in grades K - 8th. Our small group instruction and intentionally small size has permitted us to offer in-person, on-campus instruction during the pandemic. MISSION: EcoAdapt, founded by a team of some of the earliest adaptation thinkers and practitioners in the field, has one goal - creating a robust future in the face of climate change. We bring together diverse players to reshape planning and management in response to rapid climate change.

ABOUT: EcoAdapt works nationally but also locally. We created the Bainbridge Island Climate Impact Assessment, supported the development of COBI’s climate-savvy Comprehensive Plan update, and support local organizations who want to make climate-informed decisions for better long-term outcomes by planning for sea level rise, increasing temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and the many effects associated with these manifestations of climate change.

MISSION: Train Responders. Prepare Communities. Respond to Disasters

ABOUT: Empact Northwest is holding our annual gala on November 21st. This year’s event will be entirely virtual and we'd love to gain more community exposure, especially with our work with the Bainbridge Community Foundation. Empact Northwest is active in the local community training local firefighters in technical rescue, helping communities prepare for disasters, and responding to the COVID crisis in unique ways.

Empact Northwest is holding their annual gala on November 21st, and this year’s event will be entirely virtual! A registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2010, Empact Northwest fields an international Urban Search and Rescue Task Force, a medical team, canine and technical search elements, and a free-standing logistical support unit. Empact Northwest is active in the local community training local firefighters in technical rescue, helping communities prepare for disasters, and responding to the COVID crisis in unique ways. In addition, Empact Northwest provides disaster preparedness support to underserved communities, and affordable, professional technical rescue training to emergency responders.

MISSION: Island Volunteer Caregivers works within community to support life-enriching connections between caring people and the elderly and persons with disabilities to enable their independence, dignity, health and well-being.

ABOUT: During the pandemic, IVC, having served the Island for almost 25 years is meeting today's needs helping seniors and those with disabilities to get to essential doctor's appointments, provide grocery and pharmacy pick-ups and deliveries, and providing transportation for Helpline food boxes, Interfaith Community Super Suppers, and B.A.R.N. bites. We also have a Phone Buddy program to reach out to those isolated at home; and connect Care Receivers with a variety of online life enrichment activities including movies, opera, fun, and educational links, a monthly outreach newsletter, and a lunch in the park (five or less gathering) to help folks stay connected. All IVC services are provided free of charge by our incredible volunteers.

ABOUT: For Job Seekers – Sound Works Job Center is known as a clearinghouse of information for individuals seeking employment. We provide information about job openings for most local businesses, cities, county, state, tribal and federal jobs including navy civil service jobs. We help our low-income clients find the hidden job market! On an average day, we have a listing of over 1,000 jobs located in Kitsap County. We locate many jobs on the internet; many other jobs are faxed or e-mailed to us by employers.
