Captain Billy and the Lunatic
Captain Billy and the Lunatic: The Poetry of Larry Kerr
In honor of Veterans Day, former U.S. Army Captain Larry Kerr reads a selection of original poems, including many from his book—Captain Billy and the Lunatic. More than 45 years after the end of the conflict in Vietnam, Kerr’s words summon a poignant remembrance of those who gave their lives in service and confer tribute to all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

LARRY KERR
In 1964 Larry was three years along in his university studies (English, Contemporary Poetry) when he enlisted in the US Army. He left the Army a decade later as infantry captain Airborne Ranger with two tours in Vietnam and other significant experience abroad. Much of his poetry over the last five decades has reflected that experience. During his follow-on career as an American diplomat, he authored “Captain Billy and the Lunatic: Poems,” performed readings, and published in the US, Mexico, Chile, and the Republic of Georgia. While sheltering in place, he is sharing what he knows about poetry with his wonderfully talented granddaughter, Juliet.
Class of June 1965 (Laurence Kerr’s class) on the Officer Candidate School Walk of Fame, Fort Benning Georgia.
