After more than a year of a darkened stage, Bainbridge Performing Arts celebrated its first live performances this summer with "Live on the Lawn!" The series began July 1st with the return of The EDGE Improv, then brought free outdoor entertainment to hundreds of eager fans every Thursday.

With performances of all kinds, BPA made its triumphant return to the stage, even as the actual stage inside the building was in the early stages of demolition to prepare for the upcoming renovation into will soon be known as "The Buxton Center for Bainbridge Performing Arts."

Fans laughed at improvised comedy, danced to the rhythm of the Anzanga Marimba Ensemble, and relaxed to the sounds of string quartets and local bands, all under a setting sun on a warm summer evening.

Performances included The EDGE Improv, Chamber Music from Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra, Ranger & The Re-Arrangers, Anzanga Marimba Ensemble, “Star Play” from Dacha Theatre, and “Nikola Tesla & The Mother of Invention” from Matheatre, featuring opening performances by The Agate Passage Barbershop Quartet, Paper Moon, Good Karma Blues, The Valhalla Brass Quintet.

For the safety of everyone involved, all performers were required to be vaccinated before rehearsing or performing with others. Other measures such as social distancing and masks were required to step inside the building to use the restroom. Outdoors, guests were encouraged to socially-distance themselves from their neighbors.

Attendees who took a moment to step into the building caught a glimpse of our progress and a preview of what’s to come when the building reopens in 2023. In the meantime, BPA will temporarily move across the street to Pavillion, where we’ll occupy Theater 3 of Bainbridge Cinemas.

We deeply appreciated the performers, patrons, and volunteers who helped make Live on the Lawn! a reality.

LIVE ON THE LAWN! was presented free with the support of patrons like you.
